Notes
DiSSCo and CMS: Steps towards interoperability
- Proposal to compile a collective list of questions for DiSSCo → group agreed to proceed Questions for DiSSCo
- Organise a meeting with DiSSCo to clarify the questions that have arisen. This meeting is expected to be more technical in nature.
DiSSCo Digital Specimen (DS) Enrollment
- Reminder: Deadline for first dataset selection is 31 October.
- Purpose: Support strategic onboarding of specimen datasets into DiSSCo infrastructure.
- DiSSCo will mint Digital Specimen DOIs free of charge for institutions worldwide.
- Limitation: Only 20 million DOIs will be created in 2025; pre-registration secures a place on the waiting list.
- Registration link and further information available.
Specify 7
- Inquiry into whether Specify uses controlled vocabularies from existing standards and how DiSSCo standards could be mapped to it.
- Response: Controlled vocabularies in Specify are defined by the institution using the system.
- It was noted that as open-source software, Specify allows development of additional clip-on applications.
- Information shared on Specify Consortium governance.
- Question raised about integrating AI for automatic data completion into Specify 7.
- Response: AI cannot work inside Specify directly, but data from Specify can be processed using AI externally.
- Invitation to attend a Specify training event in Madrid, 9–12 December, also open to institutions considering joining the Specify Consortium.
Establishment of CMS in smaller collections: support through documentation and other measures
- It was decided that a wiki page should be set up to provide an overview of the information and services available to smaller institutions.
Structuring the CMS subgroup on the ISTC-Wiki
- Suggestion to share CMS-to-Darwin Core mappings
AOB
- Call for additional co-conveners for the subgroup.
